Well, we start another year and we break records in the first session back, 56 girls playing futsal and it would have been higher if a flu bug hadn’t gone round one group of friends! Amazing!

We had two new player come and try futsal for the first time – welcome Lily and Amelia, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

A huge thank to Hannah – this U13 player is going through a long injury and asked if she could come along and help the U10s for the first hour. She was amazing and such a credit to the club and her parents, a star in the making!

With it being the first week back we got the girls back on the ball with lots of touches and moving around the court. The younger group worked so hard across the whole court, it was fantastic to watch. The older three groups worked on using high support players to make the longest safest pass they could, and then join in for a one touch second post finish. We saw some massive improvements and the standard across all the hours was very high – all goes well for the Pokemon tournaments coming up!

Player of the week for the first hour was Alice M-M – She is another one of these fabulous young players who never stops running, never gives up, always tries her hardest and does it all with a huge smile on her face. Fab session Alice, please, never change!

Player of the week for the second hour was Toni S – We like Toni, she is not the biggest but we can’t wait to see how she develops over the coming years. She has such good feet and a very clever futsal brain, and has an eye for goal. Keep developing as you are, we have a serious player on our hands!

Player of the week for the third hour was Aria P – It seems over the last few sessions Aria has turned a huge corner and become the players we always hoped she would. She worked so hard out of possession as the safety player and stopped so many attacks. The future is very bright!

Player of the week for the fourth hour was Clare I – One from the first ever session and still has another season after this, we hope! In the session, she scored and then sprang into life, working so hard both ways and looking a top player! Well done Clare, fab session!

Final thoughts of a coach – well, off we go again with another year of coaching futsal and we couldn’t have started with a better session – 56 girls playing futsal! Wow, wow, wow. It would have been even more but for a small group getting flu and missing out. I am constantly staggered by the amazing support for what is essentially a minority sport. Lets hope 2023 is the break through year for futsal…

Over the next 4 weeks we are hosting the FA Pokemon Futsal Cup, a national tournament to find the best futsal team in the UK. We are putting out 8 teams at the various age groups, we will welcome 18 other teams to York and somewhere between 250 and 300 girls will play competitive futsal, some for the very first time. The last 5 years have provided smiles, fun, fantastic goals and plenty of drama – check back to see what happens this year….we seriously can’t wait!
