This was the first session back after a half term break, and being Remembrance Day, all the age groups stood in silence for a minute. It was brilliant to see how much respect the girls showed.

We had three players come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome Seyana, Grace and Hannah, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

We started the younger group with a dribbling session, were asked them to make sure they stoped the ball with the sole of their foot. We progressed to a full court game in which if you had your foot on the ball you couldn’t be tackled. It took the players a while to work out how to use this advantage but by the end we had some fantastic goals.

Player of the week for the younger group was Aria P – when Aria started at Bootham she was quiet and held back, but after the last two matches she is showing what a very intelligent futsal player she is. She watches and reads the game so well, and on top of that she can pass and shoot as good as anyone! Well played Aria!

The older group started by doing a similar session to the younger group, but they surrendered possession by not controlling the ball using the sole of their foot – a real challenge for some of the players. We moved this on to keeping possession from kick-ins and corners – not as easy as it sounds. Something we will work more in the coming weeks. The last 10 minutes was a quick fire winner stays on game. If you lost off you went – but the winners didn’t have to wait for the new team to get organised, they just started immediately. Great exercise to see who is concentrating and who is daydreaming!

Player of the week for the older group was Megan G – she is one brave young lady! Goalkeepers have to be brave but Megan is ultra brave, she dives, falls over, gets hit by the ball and just never stops smiling! A fantastic young lady and one we are very proud of to have at the club. Well done Megan, truly deserved!

The first session back after a break are always interesting, seeing how much the girls remember and who is confident enough to try new things. Needless to say we have some huge characters in all the age groups and the session flew by with lots of fantastic futsal. Well played everyone – see you all next Sunday!
