This week we trained on Friday night, due to the school holding its annual summer fair on the Sunday.

The younger group started with a game of naughts and crosses, one of the coaches favourites. This week it was run by our older members Katie and Kim. Both girls have been pretty much ever present throughout the season and help out with the younger group all the time. Huge thank you to them both!

The idea of the session was game related. The girls played lots of 4 minute matches with different rules – only one goal each, can only score in the D, 2 touch etc. Not only do the girls love these sessions but it also helps to reinforce the coaching ideas we have worked on throughout the previous weeks.

The older group started with Invisible Futsal – if you haven’t tried it, you are seriously missing out! Coach Chris was the ref and the girls absolutely loved it! We can see this becoming one of the favourites going forward.

As with the younger group, we worked on game related situations. One team had to play a 4 minute match and not concede to stay on. They could score but had to win by 3 clear goals to stay on as winners. If they conceded, they lost, the game stopped and the next team took their place.

We saw some great defending and the thought process of the teams was brilliant to watch – what to we need to do at different points in the game to either not concede or to score?

Another fabulous session with everyone working their socks off. Next week is presentation week, don’t miss it!

Player of the week for the younger group was Sienna – wow she worked hard today, but best of all was her tackling and running with the ball, a real improvement on the previous few weeks. Awesome session, well done Sienna!

Player of the week for the older group was Lily S – Lily has shown fantastic progressed throughout the year and is looking very much the total futsal player. Her ability to get around the court is amazing to watch, great session, well played Lily S.
