It was hot and humid in the sports hall today and a huge well done to all the players for the way they ran and ran and ran, superb effort from all of them.

We had three new players come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome, Alice K, Martha and Sylvie, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

The first group worked on a 1v1 session in which they tried to score in any goal. We then made the game directional but after you scored, could you help one of your teammates with their 1v1 to make it a 2v1, or even a 3v1? It was great to watch the way the players changed direction when one goalmouth got crowded and immediately attacked the other end.

With the second and third groups we worked on spotting opportunities to overload the opposition. We had two courts set up, and the players decided how many players were on each court at any one time, but to win the game you had to win both courts. They could swap courts at any time during the match. It took a while but eventually players swapped when they saw they were needed on the other court.

Player of the week for the first hour was Billie A – she has only just joined us but never fails to give 100% in every single session. It took a few weeks for Billie to find her feet but now she is getting better and better each week. She is a tenacious tackler and not a bad shot as well. Great start to your futsal journey Billie, keep it going!

Player of the week for the second hour was Hattie F – one of the very best in the club, this young lady is a real live wire and never stops running for the whole session. She has added goals to her game by improving her shooting this season and is one we are watching as a future ladies player. Keep going forward Hattie, very impressive!

Player of the week for the third hour was Keira L – well, what did Keira have for breakfast?! She had such good feet today and beat so many players time and time again, the coaches were smiling watching her. This young lady is definitely one for the future and today showed just why! Awesome Keira, fab performance!

Final thoughts of a coach – I am often asked how much futsal will help a player in their footballing journey. It is a strange one, as the games really are different – just ask our ladies team this season! Yes futsal will help a player with their touch, passing and shooting in football but the tactical and physical sides of the games are so very different. Especially now we have a ladies team, we are working to create futsal players, to get these girls to fall in love with the game, not just to use it to improve their footballing skills. We often hear the phrase – ‘Futsal for football, or futsal for futsal.’ As a dedicated futsal club, we definitely are working towards futsal for futsal – and we hope we can pursued many more ladies to join us on this journey….
