The temperature in York dropped very low over the weekend, meaning nearly all the grassroots football matches got cancelled! Not futsal – a sport that never gets affected by the weather!

As it was the last session of the year, we did our usual fun free for all and asked the girls to show us what they had learnt over the last 11 weeks, with a huge emphasis on having fun! We saw some dancing like a reindeer and Santa, some brilliantly thought out and clever conditions in games, and lots and lots of smiles! Thank you to the dads for acting as goalkeepers and allowing us to cheat badly in favour of their daughters! Needless to say the 3 hours passed very quickly and we can all look forward to a few weeks rest!

Final thoughts of a coach – Well, that’s another year done, and what a year 2022 will go down as!

We saw the ladies play their first every national league game, and this really has got the rest of the club talking. From the U8s upwards the girls all want to know how the ladies did in their last match. It has lit a very interesting spark inside the club, parents tell us that their daughter really wants to play for the ladies! The talk about the new U19 England team has also sparked a lot of interest, with players openly saying they want to wear that England shirt – please don’t let the girls down FA….

We started the year with 27 members and finished the year with an average of 50 girls and 15 ladies training each week, what a year it has been, and it shows no sign of slowing down. We have so many ideas where to take the club next, watch this space because some are very interesting and we can’t wait to put them in place!

Thank you to each and every player for their hard work this year, thank you to the moms, dads and grandparents for being taxis and supporters, and a huge thank you to my fellow coaches and helpers, the club belongs to everyone, we are just looking after it for the time being!

Roll on 2023…it’s gonna be epic!
