Coach Chris was back after a week away, all be it with a slightly croaky voice!

We had two players come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome Alisha and Kiera, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

After a fab warm up from Paul we worked on recovery runs to help out the defence. The court was split into 3 and play always restarted with either goalkeeper. Before you could start play, the team in possession had to have all their players in the defencive third. After attacking they had to work hard to get back into a defending position to receive the ball again. In the matches at the end, we encouraged the players to do the same.

Player of the week for the younger group was Emily H – Emily is back with us for the second time. She was briefly with us before she had a year at the RTC, but she is back now and looking a very comfortable futsal player. She had good feet, very physical and an eye for goal. Welcome back Emily, looking very good!

We had 8 missing from the older group, so the session was adapted slightly. The older group worked on the same recovery session as the younger group. We encouraged the players to recover right to their goalie before letting up! This allowed them to have the correct body shape to receive the ball and play forward as quickly as possible. We talked about the positions you could take up to allow a quick transition from defence to attack.

Player of the week for the older group was Claire I – Another young lady who has been with us since day one, and she was the very first player of the week! We have watched her grow from a small girl into a confident young lady who has good feet, a great attitude and today never gave up. Fantastic session, Claire, here’s to another 4 years!

A special thank you to Andrew for his help with taking the photos this week – awesome job! Over the coming weeks, we will need help with photography and video – don’t panic, Suzy will be on hand to show you what to do!

Recovery is one of the fundamentals of the game of futsal and it really is hard work. Not one player complained today! ALL the players, whatever age worked so hard to get back, covered every part of the court and then played some fab futsal going the other way, just brilliant to watch. Have a good rest everyone and see you all next week for hopefully our first game of the season!
