We welcomed back the players after the Easter break! There were quite a few away with it being a Bank Holiday weekend, but those that came really did work extremely hard.

The younger group concentrated on some ball manipulation, working on some simple technical skills. These included toe taps, ball rolls, drag backs and side to sides. As coaches we love challenging the girls and changing their mind set from ‘I can’t do this’ to ‘I just did it!’.

They progressed onto a shooting and finishing session in which players had to hit a moving ball. We talked about making sure the players hit the target as their main aim. As one of the goalkeepers, Coach Chris can vouch for the quality of the shooting, fantastic to watch!

The older group worked on recovery. After some possession work and a quick revisit to how to defend a 1v1, we started with a full court recovery session in which players attacked one goal, before immediately defending the other. This is very hard, with players consistently making near full court sprints. The commitment was outstanding, with some great recovery work on show.

We shortened the court and moved on to a session in which teams played 1v1, 2v1, 2v2 all the way to 5v5 after each shot had been taken. We worked on using the width of the court to find space. Top goal of the day came from Tegan, a great cross court pass from Katie, and Tegan scored first time with a second post finish, classic futsal!

Please note, for the upcoming weeks we are relocating to St Olave’s while the GCSE exams are on at St Peter’s!

Player of the week for the younger group was Eva – she has only been with us for a few weeks, but she is a bundle of energy, and always gives 100%. She scored plenty of goals today, all of them pretty special! Great start Eva, keep it up!

Player of the week for the older group was Katie S – Normally a goalkeeper in football, she loves having a run about in futsal. Her passing was brilliant today and after some of the skills she showed, has earnt the new nickname ‘Messi’, well played Katie!
