In the second session of the new block, we asked the players to see how often and early they could shoot.

We also had another new player come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome Audrey, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

The warm up was lead by Coach Chris with the players having to listen to his instructions and then do the movement or sometimes do the opposite. The main part of the session involved all the girls on the pitch at the same time and the overall pitch being made shorter. We asked the girls to think about what they could do different if dribbling and passing was not working. We wanted them to take every opportunity to shoot. Coach Ruben was in one goal and Coach Chris in the other and, boy, did they get peppered!

We continued this theme into the matches at the end, and there we saw some fantastic shooting skills. Pretty much everyone took their opportunity to shoot when they could. What we loved was loads of people trying to score goal, brilliant to watch.

Coach Paul took the older group and had a rondo passing drill and naughts & crosses combined, brilliant to watch.

We played the same shooting game with the older group, but worked on receiving the ball to shoot and different types of shooting, getting them to try a toe poke. We asked players to try and block the goalkeeper’s view, and also look for clever ways to score. Players started to realise on the small pitch with lots of players, if you took too long to shoot, the opportunity disappeared very quickly.

We saw some real improvements in understanding today from all the age groups and the workrate from so many of the girls was brilliant. All the coaches agreed this was by far the best session of the season – well done to everyone!

Player of the week for the younger group was Hattie – She not been a member for very long and today she got to wear her brand new training for the first time. It must has spurred her on as she was brilliant – great energy, fabulous tackling and really fierce shooting, the complete package – a seriously good talent and one we will be keeping a keen eye on! Awesome, Hattie!

Player of the week for the older group was Megan – One thing you can’t coach is bravery and desire, this girl has bags of both! In the shooting game she got hit so many times when stopping players from shooting, we lost count! She never stopped and kept trying to get the ball, she never once complained or wanted a break, she just kept going. What a performance and one of the very best of the year, well done, Megan!
