First the first time in the clubs history we coached for 4 hours, it was a long but a very satisfying morning!

We had two new players come and try futsal for the first time – welcome Ava and Aime, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

Within this next 6 week block we are looking at defending, both individual and team, starting this week at being clever defenders. This meant not kicking the ball away but trying to pinch it when making the tackle. We talked about being patient and not diving in to try and win the ball. What really impressed the coaches today was the physicality from all the girls, especially in the 1v1 challenges. The move to 4 hours was definitely worth while, thank you everyone for your hard work!

Player of the week for the first hour was Isabelle S – For someone so young, she shows so many fantastic attributes. She can dribble, run with the ball, tackle and boy can she shoot! We can’t wait to see how this young lady develops!

Player of the week for the second hour was Maja M – A player who has really stared to catch the eyes of the coaches. She was the first player to try and pinch the ball in the 1v1s, without any of the coaches saying anything, brilliant to watch. Keep up this high standard Maja, fab session!

Player of the week for the third hour was Abbie D – Another newcomer to futsal! Today she showed what a good player she is going to be – pace, power, passing and huge workmate. Still very raw but an exciting player, huge potential, well played Abbie!

Player of the week for the fourth hour was Emily-Sue T – One of founder members, and boy did she work hard today. We have never seen her run so much, both going forward and in defence, a real legend of the club, well played Emily-Sue!

Final thoughts of a coach – I have to be honest, the thought of coaching 4 hours on a Sunday morning filled me with a little dread. We had moved some players round, challenged some with hard groups and overall tried to make sure the players got more game time. Let’s just say by the end I was shattered but smiling loads. If this is the standards we are going to get from the girls, then it was the best decision ever! Some girls are a bit shy when you ask them to be physical, to really get stuck in and push each other around – not this group! They pushed each other all over the court today, such a huge leap forward for so many. I honestly feel privileged to work with such talented, hard working, but humble young ladies – each and every parent should be proud of them.
