After the first minutes the game was dominated by Bootham with them scoring at regular intervals throughout the night. Goals from Heather, Kim, Emily-Sue, Ava, Katie D, Keira and Ellie saw them finish with a comfortable win. Goal of the night went to club captain Ellie with her cheeky back heel in front of the York goalkeeper!

Huge thank you to Lucy for organising the game and the very best of luck to the University of York in their first BUCS games this weekend.

Player Of The Match – We couldn’t pick from any of the academy players so we gave the award to them all! Well done to Heather, Emily-Sue, Keira, Megan, Ava and Katie – you are all superstars!

Final thoughts of a coach – You are never sure what young players will do when they player against an older opposition, but tonight youth really did shine. Every single academy player put on a show, and I was one smiling coach. It is always nice to win and score some goals, but what stood out was the understanding and application of how we want these girls to play.

From Megan in goal, who kept a clean sheet, advancing over halfway, to Keira’s fancy footwork, Ava’s brilliant captaincy, Emily-Sue scoring her first competitive goals, Katie’s work rate up and down all night and Heather’s lethal finishing, they really did put a marker down. Yes, they have a very long way to go until they grace the National Futsal League, and there is still a lot to learn, but tonight they showed the desire, passion and pure joy of playing for Bootham. Huge pat on the back to each and everyone of them!
