After last weeks brilliant first week, we were really looking forward to another fantastic futsal session with the girls of Bootham Futsal Club.

We had one new player come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome Maja, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

We continued the defending topic with work on some lateral defending with 2v1 play in a set space. The younger players also did some work on communication, do they know the names of the players in the team? They also worked on keeping the ball in play at all costs, getting them to realise how precious the ball is. The older groups worked on some 3/4 court 3v3s with a one touch finish. We spoke about why this encourages support play and how this can improve their movement around the court.

The older groups needed a little ‘encouragement’ to get going, but once up to speed, we saw some excellent play with several players really standing out and showing how much they are improving!

Player of the week for the first hour was Seyana P – in only her third session of futsal she has already shown a fantastic attitude to working hard, we are seriously impressed. She is ferocious in her tackling and not afraid of anyone. A brilliant start to your futsal journey, keep it up Seyana!

Player of the week for the second hour was Anna W – what really stood out was how Anna was so confident in the games – she slowed right down, put her foot on the ball, look up and decide what was the best option. For such a young lady we were so impressed! With this age being the largest, players are fighting for a place in the next round of the futsal cup and with a display like that, Anna is certainly a very strong contestant!

Player of the week for the third hour was Katie H – we think the world of this young lady. Not only is she a delight to coach and a fabulous young lady, she is really starting to show her futsal ability. A natural captain, someone who leads by example and does all this with a huge smile on her face. One we are definitely pencilling for the ladies in the future!

Final thoughts of a coach – the first two weeks of coaching have shown how we can really influence the way players think about the game. The first group was challenged not to kick the ball out, and we saw them thinking before they just belted the ball – the second and third group could only score with a one touch finish, so we saw them try and support the player with the ball. We also saw some fantastic one and two touch play from the older age groups. All this really made me smile and made me realise we have to trust our player to show what they can do – don’t think that because something is hard, they won’t achieve it! Today, I was proved so wrong! Well done to each and every player – Chris
