Match day 3 saw Bootham Ladies’ Futsal Club – York travel to Warrington to play the hosts on their home court. With Bootham still looking for a permanent goalkeeper, Katie stepped up between the posts. There were debuts for Rowan and youngest member of the squad Eleanor. With both teams seeking their first win of the season, a close game was expected.

Bootham got off to the perfect start when in the first minute Denva finished through the keepers legs. Warrington hit back and took a 3-1 lead before captain Ellie scored from long range, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Warrington scored again from a well worked corner making the score 4-2 at halftime.

Second half saw Bootham concede 3 quick goals, but their heads never dropped and they took the game to Warrington. Rowan scored twice with assists from Charli and Suzy, before Warrington restored their 4 goal lead. Bootham created chance after chance and for the last five minutes could easily have scored 5 goals. Kimberly forced a fantastic save from the keeper and Rowan should have scored on several occasions, breaking clear of the defence, only to see her shots repeatedly saved. A late goal from Rowan made the final score 8-5 to Warrington.

In conversation afterwards coach Chris said, ‘We are so pleased with that performance, but also disappointed with the result, we know we should have won the game. We created so many chances but just couldn’t finish them. The Warrington goalkeeper had a fantastic game and really made the difference today. The players really did work hard all over the court and at times our passing and movement was simple but very effective. Special mention to Katie, she hasn’t played in goal for several years and she did brilliant today.’

When asked about the two debutants, he went on to say, ‘Eleanor is the youngest in the squad but she didn’t let us down today. Playing against much older and experienced players can be very hard, but she really had a good game, I am so pleased for her. Rowan is a fantastic player, great touch, and an eye for goal. Once she learns the game, I know she will score plenty of goals, but a very strong start to her futsal journey.’
