What an amazing session! After the last couple of weeks with the York Futsal Cup, the girls really came back with a fantastic work ethic. All the coaches agreed that was probably the best we have seen from the whole group.

Alan started the first group with a simple rondo warm up, with a couple of variations. We then did a small passing exercise, with 2 squares linked across each other. The girls did so well at this, we managed to introduce a second ball to each square.

They then worked in pairs in a 1v1 session across the whole court. Every pair was on the court at the same time and the basic idea was to score as many goals as they could. This is very hard work, but every single girl worked their socks off both in and out of possession. We finished with some 3 minute games in which the winner stayed on.

The older group started with a simple passing and control drill. We wanted to really emphasise getting them to use the sole of their foot again to control the ball. They also had a go at the 1v1 full court session, and they worked as hard as the younger group.

The main part of the session was working on man to man marking. We emphasised getting tight quickly, making the attacker face back towards their own goal, being patient and finally, not allowing the attacker to turn. This is hard work as the concentration levels need to remain high throughout. They finished with some 3 minute games in which one side was challenged to not concede to stay on the court for the next game.

What a fantastic couple of hours of futsal. Both groups worked extremely hard for both sessions, but the smiles we had at the end showed how much the groups had also enjoyed themselves. Thank you to everyone.

Player of the week for the First Hour was Clare – she is back to her brilliant best, working really hard with and without the ball. She has such energy on the court and some great toe poke finishes in the shooting practice. Well done, Clare!

Player of the week for the Second Hour was Ellie – over the last weeks she has moved on so much in her futsal development. She has really started to work very hard around the court and her passing, especially in the opposition’s half was brilliant. Top day, Ellie!

We have only 3 places left in each of the U10s, U12 and U16s age groups. Get in touch if you would like more information, and why not join one of the fastest growing girls only clubs in the area!
