Another 40 plus day with more girls each hour than we had before. The club is growing week on week, and we may well be looking at 4 hours very shortly! Amazing support from everyone, thank you!

We had two new players come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome, Molly and Hannah, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

The first group worked on their dribbling and shooting, either against a defender or unopposed. Well done to Maisie for being such a good defender. They also practised their 1v1 attacking against Ruben, great finishing from Isla and Irma. They finished with some full court games, and showed great energy covering the court, great to see.

The older two groups continued the work on transition. They started with some 4v4 in which after a shot or goal was scored the opposition got a new ball on the halfway line. The game continued both ways at full speed! Great goalkeeping from both Heidi and Olivia.

The final group had a short goalkeeping master class from York Futsal coach George, we had to laugh at the lack of flexibility of the group when trying a split save! They finished on working a full court 1v1, 2v1, 2v2 all the way to 4v4, with thought on using the overload but also defending the underload.

Player of the week for the first hour was Mollie C – she has only just joined the club but what great feet she has, and boy, what a shot from such a small girl. She is very new to futsal but we really like what we see and can’t wait to see how she develops. Great start to your journey, Mollie!

Player of the week for the second hour was Maja M – another player new to futsal. She really did think about what she was doing today and the outcomes when defending were brilliant to watch, very composed when under pressure. Keep working hard, well played, Maja!

Player of the week for the third hour was Ava – we think the world of this young lady and can’t wait for her to turn 16 and represent the ladies’ team. She is back to her brilliant best – passing, moving and using the ball very intelligently. She really must be the best passer in the club! Fab session, well done, Ava!

Final thoughts of a coach – each week I look at the numbers attending training and compare them with the previous years. We are over 10 players more per hour than this time last year! I keep wondering when we will stop attracting interest, but each week we receive emails, texts and enquiries about available places. The thirst for female futsal just seems to keep growing and growing. I don’t know how long the FA can not keep their promise of a national female futsal team – give these young ladies something to aim for! The clubs are doing all they can to coach and educate players and parents about the game, the FA really does now have to step up and help! Rant over, see you all next week!
