Bootham Futsal U12s Vs Howden AFC U12s
On Sunday 1st May, Bootham U12s took on Howden AFC U12s at York University Sports Centre. With so many U12s for the coaches to pick a squad from for the next round of the Pokemon Cup, it gave the coaches the chance to see some new players in match action.
Bootham were represented by Martha P (Captain) Heidi J, Olivia A, Toni S, Hattie F, Isabella L, Lacey B, Erin E, Sarah H and Grace W.
Bootham started slowly and Howden moved and passed the ball quickly and accurately, causing Heidi to make several smart saves. As the half progressed, Bootham woke up and goals from Lacey, Hattie and Isabella gave the York side a comfortable lead. Captain Martha started to dominate the ball and looked dangerous in attack. Grace was working hard in defence and in goal, Olivia was called into action late on, but saved bravely from the Howden player. Half term score:
Bootham Futsal Club York U12s 3 – Howden AFC U12s – 0
The second half was a two girls show! First Erin bossed the game, with her pace and power, which led to a quick fire hat-trick. But in the last 10 minutes Toni went one better with 4 goals, showing her touch and control and fantastic finishing. Bootham were on top for most of the second half, with Sarah looking very dominate in defence, time and again stopping any Howden attacks. A late goal mouth scramble in the Howden area, saw Lacey shoot wide, leading to the final score:
Bootham Futsal Club York U12s 10 – Howden AFC U12s – 0
Coach Chris said in conversation after the game, ‘I don’t think the scoreline showed how well Howden played. They had players that passed the ball very well, and caused us some real problems. At half time we talked about shooting and not trying to walk the ball into the net. Erin and Toni took it upon themselves to do this, and wow, didn’t they just! With the next round of the Pokemon cup coming so soon, this was a good test for the U12s. This age group is really strong and several players did their selection chances no harm. It’s going to be a headache who to pick but a nice headache to have.’
Player Of The Match was Toni – The last 10 minutes showed what a fantastic player she is. All her goals were brilliantly taken. She has such good feet, quality movement and definitely an eye for goal. We were so impressed by the way she just moved up a gear and was basically unplayable at times. Fantastic performance Toni, and one to watch in the future!
