Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun! The last five weeks have absolutely flown by, and in the blink of an eye, our first block is complete! All the age groups have worked incredibly hard, and we’ve already seen so much improvement across so many players.

Today’s session was a continuation of last week’s work. Each player was paired with an opponent and assigned the same colour cone. The pitch was divided into thirds, and players could only tackle their designated partner in the two defensive thirds of the court. It’s a brilliant game for highlighting who’s switched on, who’s switched off and who might be taking a little too much of a back seat! And, of course, we make sure the players know exactly who they are!

After a few games, we changed the rules. At each restart, the team in possession could swap cones amongst themselves, trying to confuse the defending team. Who was paying attention? Who was daydreaming? And who had completely lost track of their partner?

As coaches, we love games like this because the players have to do all the hard work, particularly when it comes to their decision-making, awareness and communication. We saw lots of players working hard to lose their partners before the ball was even back in play. Brilliant to watch, great fun for the coaches and, most importantly, plenty of hard work and thinking for the girls Five weeks down, lots of progress made, and plenty more to come!

1st Hour – Hattie P

She is a proper pocket rocket – once she starts, she never stops! 🚀💪 But today she took a turn in goal and pulled off loads of brilliant saves, using both her feet and her hands. Not once did she shy away from a challenge – always brave and absolutely fantastic to watch! 🧤⚽. Top day, Hattie! Brilliant as always! 👏❤️

2nd Hour – Isabella S

This young lady has all the tricks in her locker to go all the way! 🌟⚽ She made several full-court recovery runs, never once complained and just got on with it. Absolutely brilliant to watch! 💪 Add to that what is possibly one of the strongest shots in her age group, and do we have a future Ladies player on our hands?! Never change, Izzy. Keep working hard, keep believing and just keep getting better!

3rd Hour – Emily C

One of the girls who went to Italy and exceeded all expectations! 🇮🇹❤️ She’s come back determined to prove a point, and she’s doing exactly that. So easy to coach, listens brilliantly and applies everything we ask of her. 👏⚽. Great feet, a fantastic engine and an attitude that makes her a pleasure to work with. Now, if we can add goals to her game, we could really be onto a winner! 🔥. Top block of sessions, Emily! Keep believing, keep working hard and keep pushing forward. You’re doing brilliantly!

📣 Communication is a two-way game!

It’s funny how communication changes across the age groups! Our youngest players can’t stop talking, while some of our older girls barely say a word! 😂

Communication is such an important part of sport, and we need all our players to find their voices! Let your teammates know where you are on the court, call for the ball, give information and encourage each other. If you’re in space, let your teammate know! If you want the ball, ask for it! Your teammates aren’t mind readers, and staying silent makes everyone’s job harder. Good communication builds confidence, improves decision-making and helps the whole team perform better. We want to hear you!

But communication doesn’t stop with the players! Parents, we need you to communicate with us too. If something is happening that might affect training, attendance or your child’s involvement, please let us know. Just as importantly, we want to hear the good and the not-so-good! What are we doing well? What could we do better? What is working for your child, and what isn’t? Honest, constructive feedback helps us learn, improve and give the girls the best possible experience. We might not always get everything right, but we can’t address things if we don’t know about them!

We’re all working towards the same goal: helping the girls develop, improve and enjoy their sport.

Good communication builds good teams, and that includes players, coaches and parents. Let’s all find our voices and do our bit! 💬⚽

Only a few images from today…

We now take a couple of weeks’ break before returning on Sunday 8th November for Block 2. We hope everyone enjoys a little downtime before we get back to the hard work!

But that doesn’t mean the futsal stops! ⚽🔥 Our ladies’ team have two big games coming up, and they really need your support!

🚌 Saturday 24th October – We travel to newly formed Derby City Futsal.

🏠 Saturday 31st October – We welcome the old enemy, Manchester, to York!

After a slow start to the season, the ladies need that extra lift from the sidelines. We need the noise, the passion and the support to help get them going! Every cheer, every clap and every voice in the crowd can make a difference. Please do everything you can to come along, get behind the team and show the ladies that you care. They put so much into representing us, and now it’s our turn to give something back!

Let’s fill the sidelines, make some noise and get behind our ladies! 💪❤️⚽
