On Sunday 17 November Bootham U12s entertained DB4 from Leeds in some friendly games at St Peters School York. The four games were played over 15-minute intervals with a constant clock in use. After their huge improvement in the West Riding Girls Futsal League, it was nice to see the girls play at home this season.

Bootham U12s were represented by:

Emily C, Maja G, Scarlett W (GK), Lily N, Rusne V, Emily Wheeldon, Isabelle S (Captain) and Eva D.

Player of the Day for Bootham, as picked by Coach Tyler and Coach Paul was Emily W – for a player so new to futsal she is becoming a little superstar! Every time she got the ball today, we thought she was going to score – so much confidence on the ball and never afraid to have a go, but also worked hard out of possession as well. Fab performance Emily, and only going to get better!

Special mention for goalkeeper Scarlett who stepped up late last night to replace the injured Aoife, what a fantastic gesture to help us out!

Coaches Thoughts – I really do love these games, where I can sit back and watch the players show how good they really are. Today we asked them to concentrate on the basics of the game – limited touches, recovery, and receiving the ball from the goalkeeper to build the play. They did all these and more, also scoring some very good goals, so good to watch. We are always asking the girls to up their physicality and this does not come easy to some of the smaller players, but today they really did give it everything, there were some crutching tackles.

Huge thank you to DB4, their coach, players and parents were a huge credit to the club, and we would love to host you again. The very best of luck for the rest of your season.

Huge thank you to Paul and Tyler for running the team today and to Hannah and Erin from the U15s for stepping up and having a go at refereeing – not that easy is it! This age group has so many new players this season, so they had to get used to the new rules, each other and futsal. But they really are impressing now, and with so many different age groups represented, the future for this group looks so very bright. Well done girls, you are such a top bunch!
