With Coach Chris in Leeds with the U12s for the first game of their new West Riding Girls Futsal League season, Coach Paul took the session this morning, with special guest help from ladies players Ellie and Nikki.

The players worked on 1v1s down the length of the court, where you had to beat the first defender before you could progress to the next zone, and finally getting a shot away on goal. If the defender won, the ball then you swapped places. Along the court were multiple defenders in their own 1v1 zone you had to beat. This is a tight practise, requiring the players to have good control and clever feet to beat the defender. We saw some fantastic attacking and defending, brilliant to watch in what is not easy.

Players of the Week:

First Hour – Beth R – after missing the first two weeks, she came back full of fight and even scored a couple of gaols, brilliant to watch and a great start to the new season! Top job Beth!

Second Hour – Maisie M – She started the session slow but finished on fire with a very dominate and physical display. This young lady has all the attributes to be a top futsal player, let’s just hope we can keep her moving forward – one of the best Maisie!

Third Hour – Lena L – You know what you are going to get from Lena – she works her socks off every week, never once giving up and has the heart of a lionesses! Fab to watch, Lena!

Fourth Hour – Amie S – One of the quiet ones who goes about her work in a calm and confident manner. One of the few players happy to go in behind the last defender time and time again, and from this causes problems to the defence every time. Keep this up Amie!

Final Thoughts of A Coach…

First a very special mention to Ellie and Nikki from the ladies’ team, who gave up their Sundays morning to come and help with the academy players. After a long away day in Manchester the day before, and not a favourable result, they still turned up and passed on their knowledge, with huge smiles to help the kids. This speaks volumes of both players and their attitude to the club – huge thank you from me!

What is winning? There has been some controversy last week in the Men’s Futsal World Cup where it seems that France allegedly let the opposition win, to allow them to progress into the tournament, albeit, in an easier section in the knockout phase of the competition….

It is so simple when you look at it – winning is being better today than you were yesterday, everyday! How many coaches can honestly say this is the attitude that they install in all their players and possibly more importantly, themselves!
