After last week’s matches in Leeds, we were back for three hours of coaching at York St John’s. The temperature may have dropped outside, but the futsal action inside was red hot!

From observing the games in Leeds, it became clear that players were struggling to use the full width and depth of the court. Too often they were running towards the ball, closing down space, and getting in each other’s way.

To address this, we set the court up with three vertical lines and asked players, when in possession, to make sure at least one teammate occupied each zone. This simple change encouraged them to think more about spreading out, using the full width, and being deliberate in their positioning.

It was not perfect at first. Players sometimes forgot where to stand, but gradually they began to recognise how effective width can be for creating space. It was fantastic to watch them adapt and start changing their habits. Lots of great learning and plenty of fun.

Players of the Week:

First Hour – Eady M
Eady isn’t afraid to share her thoughts and always contributes great ideas to the team. Today she showed excellent technique in both practice and the match, scoring a couple of impressive goals. Keep up the hard work, Eady!

Second Hour – Lily N
She may be one of the smallest on the court, but she’s certainly not afraid to get stuck in! Lily works tirelessly up and down the court and, when given the chance, can unleash a cracking shot. A top day from a top young lady, fantastic work, Lily!

Third Hour – Eleanor C
She’s a real Rolls-Royce on the court, fantastic touch, brilliant movement, and she plays with complete composure. Eleanor is such a joy to watch, and it’s clear why England came calling. The ladies are definitely waiting for you, Eleanor!

Reflections from the Sidelines..

With the amazing news of Heather, Erin, Lacey, and Eleanor earning places in the England U17 and U19 Development Squads, our focus naturally turns to the whole club. It is easy to assume that every player dreams of wearing the England shirt. Some do, and we celebrate their hard work and dedication, but the truth is that the vast majority of players play this sport simply for the love of the game.

Futsal is about more than accolades. It is about friendship, teamwork, discovering new skills, and enjoying every moment on the court. Every training session, every match, and every small improvement is part of your own personal journey. We make sure everyone is welcome, regardless of ability, experience, or background. Every effort matters, every player counts, and every story is worth celebrating.

Enjoy the journey wherever it may take you. Play for yourself, grow for yourself, and let the game bring you joy. That passion, inclusivity, and love for the sport is what makes our club such a vibrant, thriving, and inspiring community. Thank you to each and every one of our unique and special players for being part of it.
