Match day 4 saw Bootham Ladies’ Futsal Club – York travel to a new venue, Cityscape in Sunderland, to play Loughborough Students Futsal Club Women. With Sophie joining the growing injury list, Bootham fielded the same 8 who played against Warrington.

The game started well for Bootham with a good display of defending and pressing. Unfortunately old habits returned and they concede 5 quick goals before Charlie grabbed her first goal for Bootham. Three late goals gave Loughborough a 11-1 halftime lead. The second half continued in the same way with Bootham struggling to contain their opponents, and they concede at regular intervals. Denva grabbed a late consolation goal, to leave the final score 21-2 to Loughborough.

Coach Chris was unable to attend the game, so Assistant Coach Paul watched the game. In interview afterwards he said, ‘We started well, with a good shape and pressed high up the court, and managed to win the ball back in their half. We struggled with our recovery runs and didn’t managed to get goal side as quick as we needed.’

He went on to say, ‘When we concede, our heads seem to drop and we forget the game plan. We need to concentrate on keeping our shape for the next few minutes and being very hard to score against. I know the scoreline doesn’t show it, but we are making improvements. Players are learning that individual mistakes are nearly always punished. Loughborough had a full squad of players and changed their outfield 4 at regular intervals, and the second half we ran out of steam. To be competitive in this league we need more quality players to allow us to rotate more often, enabling us to keep the temp very high.’
