When we started the club many years ago we never imagined we would be entering our ninth season. Here we are!

We are delighted to announce that we have secured the fantastic York St John Sports Barn for all our academy training sessions this season. We began with three great hours of futsal and the energy was incredible.

A special mention to our brilliant trialists who tried futsal for the first time: Elena D, Alice H, Scarlett M, Abigail R, Agnes C, Jolanta K and Esme W. Welcome to the club. We hope you had a fantastic day and look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Today’s session focused on one of the key principles of futsal: recovery. Once a team lost the ball, they could not try to win it back until all their players had recovered to their own half. This drill is demanding and requires a lot of teamwork to make sure everyone works hard and does their job.

We were really impressed with the effort on display, with teammates encouraging each other throughout. It was fantastic to watch. We cannot wait for this season. With more matches, a new venue and a very exciting announcement to come, it promises to be an outstanding year for the club!

Players of the Week:

First Hour – Betty H
She was the perfect captain for her team in the first hour. Betty encouraged her teammates to recover back into their own half before pressing to win the ball. She never stopped trying — great to watch. Fab day, Betty — keep it up!

Second Hour – Isabelle S
She’s started this year just like she finished the last — with a fantastic performance! Isabelle dominated her games with great passing and finishing, while also encouraging her teammates and making sure everyone was involved. One of the best we have — Isabelle is a ladies’ player in the making!

Third Hour – Imogen B
This girl has one of the best shots in the club, and she knows how to finish! But she also works incredibly hard up and down the court, and today was no different. She’s a delight to coach and always gives 100%. We can’t wait to see how you go this season, Imogen!

Reflections from the Sidelines..

We begin this season with the lowest number of registered players we have had in five years. At first this worried me and I began to question everything we were doing at the club. Was I getting it wrong? Was I expecting too much, putting too much pressure on, making it less fun, or was it something else entirely?

After reflecting, I realised that every club goes through cycles. Numbers can dip for many reasons — school changes, family commitments, other sports, or simply the natural ebb and flow of young players’ interests. What matters is that we continue to offer a welcoming environment, high-quality coaching and a strong sense of community. This season gives us the chance to focus even more on the players we do have, nurture their skills, build team spirit and create an atmosphere where new players will want to join.

I am delighted to say we have already received many enquiries about trials at the club, and ten players have committed to take part. This is a huge encouragement and a reminder of why we do what we do.

We cannot wait for this season. With more matches, a new venue and a very exciting announcement to come, it promises to be an outstanding year for the club.
