St Peter’s was being used for another activity today, we re-camped to Millthorpe for this one Sunday. This was the last session of the block, so we asked the players to show us what they have learnt over the previous 5 weeks. They concentrated on recovery, confidence on the ball and teamwork.

We had two players come and try Futsal for the first time – welcome Lacey and Lexie, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

The younger group started with a passing warm up, in which we asked them to keep a ball moving around a circle with as few a touches as possible. With the matches we watched as the girls showed up what they had learnt. Needless to say we were seriously impressed. Their confidence on the ball was amazing, we love the way they try really hard to keep the ball in play and not belt it out or away. The players’ finishing has also improved, they take the ball right as close to the goalkeeper as they dare and look to place it in the corner of the goal, fantastic to watch.

Player of the week for the younger group was Jean P – well, this young lady is never short of a few words! She has come such a long way since she started futsal and each week she gets that little bit better. We keep having to remind ourselves that she is only an U10. Well done Jean, you are a little star!

Coach Chris challenged the older group in their warm up to keeping 3 balls in a passing circle without losing control. If the girls managed it for 20 seconds, then he would do 5 press-ups! And guess who won…well, it wasn’t the girls! We went straight in to games in which we made the girls start play from their goalkeeper, but the first pass had to be in the defence third, getting them to build the play. The girls were slow starting today, but by the end the passing and movement was superb. The one and two touch play was brilliant to watch, with some outstanding goals being scored.

Player of the week for the older group was Katie H – a captain for the future, she took control today and really worked hard to get her team playing together. Her touch and passing have really improved and she had plenty of shots also today. Top work, Katie!

We had over half the club away today with Covid or cold related illnesses, a really worrying affair. Fingers crossed we don’t get any kind of lockdown this year. Next week is another U12 game versus Wigginton Grasshoppers, with the main sessions starting again on Sunday 14th November, so plenty of time for everyone to recover. Have a good break everyone and please stay safe!
