It was the U15s’ turn to step into the spotlight in the West Riding Girls Futsal League, travelling to Batley with confidence running high after last week’s mixed fortunes for the U11s and U14s.

Building on the success of an unbeaten run in the JPL League in Hull, Bootham’s squad featured several players who had impressed at U14 level, alongside members of the group set to represent the club in Italy later this year. With such strength in depth and experience on the court, this was arguably the strongest side Bootham have ever taken to Batley.

Expectations were clear from the outset, two strong performances and two positive results were firmly on the agenda as the new campaign got underway.

The U15 were represented by Eleanor C, Elena D, Imogen B, Maisie M, Mollie C, Rusnė V, Scarlett W, Sophie C and Hattie F.

Player of the Week – U15s Sophie C – A new addition to the club this season, Sophie has taken her time to settle into what is a very competitive group. Today, however, she truly looked at home in the team. There are still areas for her to develop, but her progress is clear to see. She scored two excellent goals, made some fantastic tackles, and produced her best performance yet in a Bootham shirt. A well-deserved award, we can’t wait to see how she gets on in Italy! 🇮🇹

Coaches Comments: That was the most physical and competitive set of games we’ve seen in Batley, and I’m incredibly proud of the way our younger players rose to the challenge. The court is slightly too small for this age group, which made it difficult to play open futsal, but we battled well throughout and scored some excellent goals. A huge well done to Scarlett in goal, she’s looking every bit the futsal goalkeeper we hoped she would be. This was the perfect warm-up for the girls heading to Italy, helping them get used to the physicality of the games. Overall, a very useful and valuable couple of matches.
