On Sunday 13th November, Bootham Girls U13s took on York Railway Institute U13s at St Peters Sport Hall.

Bootham Futsal Club were represented by:

Erin E (Captain), Heidi J, Jessica W, Toni S, Hattie F, Martha P, Aria P, Hannah B, Lacey B, Jessica H, Poppy G, Imogen D, Anna W and Grace W

Bootham started on the front foot and pressured an inexperienced York RI side into long spells of defending. Once Bootham got in front, they never looked back, and scored goals at regular intervals. York RI did mange to get two consolation goals and at times, really tested Bootham and their goalkeepers. Overall it was a good run out for both teams, with some excellent futsal being played, and good preparation for the FA Pokemon Cup, which both teams have entered and will be played in January 2023.

The match was played over four 15 minute periods, and at the end of this Bootham ran out comfortable winners, with the Bootham goals being scored by Erin, Poppy, Hattie, Toni and Martha.

Hattie’s quick fire four goals!

A huge thank you to York RI U13s and their coach for giving up their Sunday to come and play us, you are welcome back any time! Also a special thank you to Ellie Whittaker, the ladies captain for coming down to support the girls.

Player Of The Match was Jessica W – She is very new to futsal and goalkeeping can be a very demanding position, but Jessica has grab this opportunity with both hands is showing what a fantastic goalkeeper she is. She is very brave, making a couple of great 1v1 saves, she dominate her area by not standing on her line and she has now started to sweep behind her defenders, brilliant to watch. Great performance and we know she is only going to get better, top job Jessica!

Final thoughts of a coach – For the last three matches I have asked Aide to step in and run the teams. As well as coaching the players, I am always on the look out for new and enthusiastic coaches who can come in and help make Bootham better. Aide is definitely one of these! He organised the players brilliantly, mixing all the teams up so everyone played with different players, they all got pretty much the same game time, and we saw improvements from lots of players. Best of all, they all did this with a smile on their faces! He will acknowledge he has alot to learn, but a huge well done from me, and an even bigger thank you!
