For our final games of the season, we welcomed Wigginton Grasshoppers U12s to St John’s Sports Hall for a round of friendly matches. This season, we have played more competitive and non-competitive fixtures than ever before in the club’s history, so surely one more couldn’t hurt!

After the games, players, coaches and parents were invited to take part in interviews for the brand-new Daddy & Daughter Podcast, hosted by Wigginton coach Hughie. Cue plenty of laughs, great conversations and lots of discussion about futsal.

The matches were played over 20 minutes with a rolling clock and rolling substitutions, ensuring every player had the opportunity to contribute and enjoy plenty of game time.

Bootham were represented by: Eva D, Isabella S, Eady M, Emily C, Maja G, Isabelle S, Miesha D, Lily N, Annabel S, Iris W and Rusnė V.

With no designated goalkeeper for this age group, superstar Rusnė—one of the girls heading to Italy in a few weeks’ time—stepped up to help out between the posts.

Player of the Day was Isabelle S as chosen by Coach Michael – Isabelle was excellent today. She carried the ball well, created chances for her teammates, found great positions, and worked tirelessly from start to finish. She’ll no doubt be asking for the footage from the two minutes that never officially happened, two cracking goals, for anyone who missed them, but she should be just as pleased with the rest of her performance. It was an outstanding all-round display. Well done, Isabelle!

Coach Michaels Comments: First up, a big thank you to Wigginton for coming to play us today. They’re a fantastic example of a team run for all the right reasons. Just like Bootham, their focus is on helping the girls enjoy the game, develop, and have fun. Finally, well done to all the girls today. After a long season of futsal, football, and what feels like an endless run of summer tournaments, your effort, commitment, and enthusiasm week after week have been outstanding. Seeing how much you enjoy playing makes it even more rewarding for us, so thank you for giving it your all once again today. You should all be very proud of yourselves. 👏⚽💙
