On Saturday 25 May 2024, Bootham Ladies Futsal Club play their last game of the 2023-24 season, and boy it couldn’t be any bigger! They take on London Genesis in the FA Futsal National Series Plate Final. The game is being played at Repton School in Derby and Bootham are taking a sizeable support down with them. It is a repeat of last year’s quarter final in which London Genesis beat Bootham on penalties after what was an absolute classic.

We spoke to Coach Chris about the forthcoming game, he said, ‘What a way to finish the season! The players seem to have saved their best performances for the cup this year, with group games again Sunderland and Bolton, both Tier 1 teams, in which they really did give it everything. The quarter final win against Tier 1 Herefordshire was arguably the team’s best performance of the season, and this sets them up for a great day on Saturday.

We know that London Genesis will want this as much as us, and we will give them the respect they deserve, you don’t get to a national final without being a good side. We have trained hard, done our homework and we couldn’t be in a better position to go and win the game.

I am extremely proud of the players, we only played our first competitive game in February 2022, so to have reached this final shows how far the club has come in such a very short time. We are still learning the game, but the players have taken on board everything we have talked about, and we are ready to show everyone what a good side we are. Whatever the result, we will enjoy the day, and who knows, with that little bit of luck you need, we may well bring that trophy back to York!
