On Sunday 24 May, Bootham U14 Girls returned to Hull for another crucial top-of-the-table clash. Following a hard-fought victory over Hull Eagles Blues, they faced Hull Eagles Greens knowing that a win would secure the league title.

With several players away during the school half-term break, the Bootham squad was once again reshuffled. Sophie, Maya, Emily and Imogen were unavailable, while Poppy, Alexia and Elena stepped into the squad. After a determined but below-par performance the previous week, Bootham were eager to rediscover the fluent, attacking futsal that has become their trademark this season.

Representing Bootham were Elena D, Jess H, Maisie M, Mollie C, Poppy L, Rusnė V, Alexia D and Scarlett W.

Players of the Match – Mollie C – Today, Mollie showed exactly why she is such a dangerous player in futsal, finishing the game with an outstanding five-goal haul. She played with maturity and composure, taking the right number of touches, moving the ball quickly, and showing excellent quality in front of goal. Having been with the club for several years, Mollie continues to develop and impress. Performances like this highlight her potential, and she is certainly one of the players we are looking at to make the step up from the academy into open-age futsal in the near future. A fantastic display and a thoroughly deserved Player of the Match award. 🏆⚽

Coaches Comments: Coach Chris reflected on the performance after the game: “After last week’s disappointing performance, when the girls forgot some of the basics of futsal, they responded brilliantly today and showed exactly how well they can play the game. They moved the ball quickly, preventing Hull from putting pressure on them, pressed high up the court, and won possession back in dangerous areas. Best of all, they were clinical in front of goal.

I thought the Hull goalkeeper was outstanding in the second half and made some incredible saves. She was a real credit to her club. Despite the scoreline, her performance kept the game far more competitive than it might otherwise have been.

This result means the girls have secured the league title with two games still to play, which is a fantastic achievement for everyone who has represented the team this season. A huge thank you to Hull for organising such a brilliant league—we have enjoyed every single game. Now the question is: can the girls complete the season with a perfect record? That’s a big challenge, but we’ll have to wait and see…”
