Off To A Cracking Start! – U10 York Girls’ Futsal Cup

On Sunday 19 January Bootham Futsal Club hosted the first ever York Girls’ U10 Futsal Cup. The games were played at St Peters School, with Bishopthorpe White Rose, Bootham Girls Futsal Club, Wigginton Grasshopper and York Railway Institute all represented. The games were 20 minutes each, with a constant clock and teams played each other once, with the top two in the league playing again to be crowned champions.
Bootham were represented by:
Ania G, Ivy A, Iris W, Eady M, Beatrix P, Lotti H (Captain), Betty H and Eva D.
As they did not have a goalkeeper in the squad, every player took a turn in goal. Special mention to Abbie and Hannah, two of our fantastic U15 players, who took charge of the team, and Jess Baker, Bootham Ladies Vice Captain, and last year’s Player of the Year, who came along to award the trophies and cheer on all the teams. She brought with her the FA Plate trophy which the ladies won last season, this went down a storm with all the teams!

A final word from Chairman Chris, ‘Wow what a fantastic start to the first day in this year’s York Girls’ Futsal Cup. Huge well done to all the players, coaches and supporters for making it a great day. We saw some amazing matches, stunning goals and even better saves – you need to something special to be a futsal goalkeeper! A special mention to the Bishopthorpe goalkeeper, for her amazing sportsmanship in the final, we can all learn from this young lady. The bar has been set very high by all the U10s, and the other age groups will have a very hard time matching this – well done everyone!’
