Bootham Girls Academy returned to Batley for the opening round of the West Riding Girls Futsal League Spring League, and there was a real buzz in the air. With three age groups entered this time, U11s, U14s and U15s, excitement was building for another chapter in what has become a superbly organised and fiercely competitive event.

First up were the U11s, making their Batley debut. With a full squad brimming with talent and enthusiasm, the girls arrived eager but understandably aware of the challenge ahead. Facing two strong, well-organised sides in their opening fixtures, there was a mixture of nerves and determination as they prepared to step onto the court.

The U11 were represented by Amy W-C, Ania G, Beatrix P, Eady M, Eva D, Iris W, Isabelle S, Ivy A, Lily N, Mia T and a huge thank you to Sabine R-T for helping us out in goal.

The U14s arrived in Batley hoping to continue their outstanding form from the Hull League. Although slightly light on numbers due to the school holidays, the squad still carried a wealth of experience, composure and attacking quality. With confidence high and standards set from previous performances, the group were determined to maintain their momentum and set the tone for the Spring League campaign.

TheU14s were represented by Imogen B, Emily W, Maisie M, Maya G, Mollie C, Scarlett W (GK), Alexis D and a debut for Poppy L.

Player of the Week – U11s The Whole Squad – It was always going to be a tough day for the U11s as they made their league debut against two very strong sides. Every single player gave it their all from start to finish and never once stopped trying. The effort, teamwork, and determination on display showed just how much potential this group has. There are plenty of positives to take away, and this is only the beginning of their journey. Top job, everyone – keep working hard and the results will come! 👏⚽

Player of the Week – U14s Mollie C – Mollie showed today that she not only has the skill and technique to play futsal at a very high level, but also the game intelligence to control and dictate matches. Her reading of the game was outstanding, and her decision-making has improved massively since the last time I watched her play. She’s developing into a real leader on the court. Keep pushing, Mollie — the ladies’ team is waiting! 👏⚽

Coaches Comments:

Coach Chris said after the games, “It was great to be back in Batley watching the girls play. The U11s had a bit of a baptism of fire against two very strong sides, but they never once stopped trying. We saw little glimpses of real futsal, putting their foot on the ball, lifting their heads, and moving it around the court with purpose. These games are important because they show us exactly where the group is and what we need to work on. Hopefully it hasn’t put anyone off, and they’ll come back in a few weeks ready to have another go!

The U14s played some fantastic stuff, passing and moving brilliantly around the court. They’ll be disappointed to have lost one game, but they bounced back in superb style to win the other. With the majority of this group heading to Italy, we’ll be focusing on sharpening their decision-making and overall teamwork, especially out of possession. There’s some real talent in this U14 squad, and we want to keep pushing them to become the players we all know they can be.”
