On Sunday 24 March Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club travelled to another new venue in Ossett for the latest games in the West Riding Girls Futsal League. The games were 20 minutes each, constant clock with no halftime. With so many players away the squad sizes were small so lots of hard work for all the players.

Game 01 – Bootham U14s Vs Bootham U15s

The game started very even with the first chance going to the U14s’ Lewis. Slowly the U15s started to assert some pressure but Jess made several top-quality saves to keep the scores level. The deadlock was finally broken when Eleanor finished well and a good run. The U14s nearly got on the score sheet when Lena shot from a light angle. The U14s should have scored when Emilia was put clean thought but her shot went just wide. The U15s extended their lead when Eleanor scored her second from close range. Mollie added a third after good work from Eleanor, and Erin added a fourth again from close range. Mollie got the game’s final goal when she turned sharply and scored from close range.

Final score: Bootham U14s 0 – 5 Bootham U15s

Game 02 – Bootham U14s Vs Rothwell Juniors U14s

Rothwell started the game on the front foot but several brave saves from Jessica kept them out. Lena went close for the U14s after a good pass from Lewis, but eventually the pressure told, and Rothwell took the lead. The U14s came roaring back and Emilea scored from in front after great work from Sienna and Lewis. Rothwell retook the lead with 2 quick goals before Lewis had a close shot saved well but the keeper. Two late goals saw Rothwell run out comfortable winners but the U14s played some of their best futsal so far this season, they were very unlucky to not score more.

Final score: Bootham U14s 1 – 5 Rothwell Juniors U14s

Players of the Match

U14s – Jessica W – She may be the youngest player on the court, but she plays with a huge heart. Futsal is not easy on goalkeepers, they very rarely keep a clean sheet, they get batter and bruised by the shots they must save, and at times they have no defenders to help them – but Jess takes this all in her stride and today she was magnificent – one we are keeping a very close eye on, top job Jess!

U15s – Eleanor C – Every time we see this young lady play, we are more impressed than the last time. Still very new to the game, she looks calm and composed in possession, and can beat players for fun. Once she gets to grips with the tactical side of the game, she is gone a be superb player – we just can’t wait, amazing day Eleanor!

A huge thank you to Amber, Darcy, and Emilea for helping us out, with so many players away we really did need their help, and all of them were fantastic – you are all welcome back anytime!
