The last 3 weeks have seen the U10s, U12s and U14 York Futsal Cup for girls and this week it was the turn of the U16s. On Sunday 9 February Bootham Futsal Club hosted the first ever York Girls’ U16 Futsal Cup. The games were played at St Peters School, with Bishopthorpe White Rose, Bootham Girls Futsal Club Blues, Bootham Girls Futsal Club Greens, and Elloughton Blackburn all represented. The games were 20 minutes each, with a constant clock and teams played each other once, with the top two in the league playing again to be crowned champions.

Bootham Blues were represented by:

Katie H, Ava G, Maygen M, Ellie M, Imogen T, Daisy S, Lena L (Captain) and Lewis P

Bootham Greens were represented by:

Heidi J (GK), Mollie G, Eleanor C, Hattie F, Abbie D, Hannah B (Captain), Erin E, Lacey B, Amie S

Huge thank you to Bootham goalkeeper Heidi J who played for both Bootham teams and was on court today for well over 2 hours, a monumental effort from a fabulous young lady!

Top lady’s players Nikki Brown and Jess Baker, and as well as England U19 Development Player Heather Smith dropped in to watch this talented age group. With many of the Bootham players on show looking for that coveted place in the ladies squad for next season, expectations were very high for a great day of futsal.

The player of the day was awarded to Ruby from Bishopthorpe White Rose, with Bootham Ladies players Nikki Brown, Jess Baker and Heather Smith presenting her trophy. She is a fantastic player who ran with ball very well and look dangerous every time she got forward.

Huge congratulation’s to Bootham Futsal Club – York U16s, who remained unbeaten all day, remaining unbeaten to all 3 strong sides and were worthy winners.

A final word from Chairman Chris, ‘What a way to finish the four age groups – four very strong sides that gave everything to try and win this event. Some of the scores really didn’t show how close the games were – that’s futsal, and the game changes so very quickly. There was great support from all the parents today, and the coaches helped their players in what was a different format for so many. I am so proud of all our players; this age group has some very talented futsal players, and I know they want to push on into the ladies team. We will also send some of this group to the next round of England U19 trials later in the year, and fingers crossed they will continue the great work done by Ruby, Ave and Heather in representing the club at the very highest level.’
