On another cold and wet day we were all delighted to be inside, not particularly warm but at least very dry – one of the joys of futsal!

We had one new player come and try futsal for the first time – welcome Lena, we hope you had fun and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!

We were back to 4 hours today and continued the journey through defending. We talked about what happens if you are not a clever defender and just kick the ball away, instead of trying to pinch it – we had some brilliant conversations and demonstrations from all the age groups. The younger ones worked in small areas trying to keep the ball inside a square when they won it. The middle groups talked about delaying and not trying to win the ball every single time, with patience being the key word. The older ones work on some 3v3 on the full court with goals being given away if you kicked the ball out of play. Special mention goes to the older group who worked so hard today, we saw some fantastic improvements from so many, and boy they loved the invisible futsal!

Player of the week for the first hour was Freya L – She is not a very loud young lady but does all her talking on the pitch with a fantastic engine that get her all over the court. She is now trusting herself to try and score with lots more shots than before, well played Freya, keep this going!

Player of the week for the second hour was Grace W – Another young ladies who doesn’t talk much but this week really improved, thinking about what she was going to do with the ball without just giving it away. Not all of her passes worked but the ideas were definitely there, top job Grace!

Player of the week for the third hour was Jessica H – Another fantastic performance from Jessica, she really has improved so much this season! Her touch, passing and shooting are just getting better and better – we love the way she is so positive with her ideas, trying to beat players and knocking over girls twice her size! She may not be the biggest but the future is huge for this one! Awesome Jess!

Player of the week for the fourth hour was Ella T – This was Ella best session by far. She has taken her time to get used to futsal but today she showed so much improvement, especially in her ball retention – making sure passes went to feet and not giving the ball away. Huge well done Ella!

Final thoughts of a coach – I arrived this morning in such a state – I managed to leave my laptop charger at my work address, so had no paperwork for the session. On top of this I was shattered after the 200 mile round trip to St Georges Park the day before. So put all this together and I wasn’t in the best place to coach 50 odd young ladies…I was so grateful for Katie, Ruben, Aide and Paul. I am so lucky to surround myself with such good people/coaches, their enthusiasm and commitment to our club goes well beyond what I could have asked for. They never complain, never cause any problems and are so good with all the girls. I honestly couldn’t do this without them. So next time, if you could say a thank you to each and everyone of them, I’m sure it would put a smile on their faces…
