On Sunday 24 April, Bootham U14s took on a strong Elloughton Blackburn U14s at York University Sports Centre. The Hull side who are currently sitting top of their league and have a cup final to come were a good test for the York team. With the next round of the FA Pokemon Futsal Cup coming up in June, this was seen as a good game to blow away any cobwebs.

Bootham were represented by Sophie W (Captain) Clare I, Mila L, Megan G, Sophie T, Heather S, Katie H, Poppy G, Kate J, Lexie B and Keira L.

Elloughton started on fire and inside 4 minutes they were 4-0 up. Bootham finally woke up and a quick fire hat trick from Heather S saw Bootham bring the scoreline back to 3-4. As halftime approached Elloughton scored another on the break to make the halftime score:

The second half was better with Bootham controlling the ball more but they couldn’t get the better of a very strong Elloughton goalkeeper, who made several fantastic saves. Megan kept the Hull team out with several fantastic saves of her own but 3 late goals to Elloughton made the final score:

Coach Chris said in conversation after the game, ‘I am a little disappointed, as the scoreline doesn’t show how good this team really is. There were too many individual mistakes and in futsal these usually lead to goals. We started very slowly and got punished for this with some very clinical Elloughton goals. We got right back in the game but couldn’t push on. Huge credit to Elloughton who passed the ball very well and were physically much stronger than us, and the best team won today.’

Player Of The Match was Lexie B – She never stopped running whilst on court and her footwork was brilliant, she tried so hard not to give the ball away, and time and again she made crucial tackles as the last defender. Since joining her confidence has just grown and grown – fantastic performance Lexie!
