This years FA Pokemon Futsal Qualifiers couldn’t have got off to a better start. We welcomed 3 teams who we had never played before and over 40 girls showed their fantastic skills to a very vocal crowd!

The results went as follows:

Game 1 – Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club U10s – 1 – Hull United U10s – 1

In the first game of the day, the hosts went up against a well drilled team from Humberside. In true futsal manner the game was end to end with chances for both teams. Hull took the lead with a well taken finish, but Bootham came storming back with chances for Florence, Jessica and Freya. Hull continued to press for a second but Maisie in her first ever game, made some fantastic last ditch tackles and Emily in goal made a couple of smart saves. Just when we thought it wasn’t going to be our day, up popped the captain Irma with a thunderbolt from outside the D, right into the top corner!

Game 2 – Clifton Green U10s – 0 – Elloughton Blackburn U10s – 5

Game 3 – Elloughton Blackburn U10s – 0 – Hull United U10s – 3

Game 4 – Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club U10s – 5 – Clifton Green U10s – 0

In the hosts second game of the day, they showed what a good futsal team they are by playing some of the best futsal we saw all day and ran away with the win. Two goals from Florence and a superb hat trick from Jessica secured a confident win. Pocket rocket Jean worked her socks off and was nearly on the score sheet with a late strike.

Game 5 – Hull United U10s – 4 – Clifton Green U10s – 1

Game 6 – Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club U10s – 3 – Elloughton Blackburn U10s – 0

In the last game of the day, and knowing they need a win to force a playoff, Bootham started on the front foot and never looked back. An early goal from Imogen settled the nerves and two late goals from Freya settled the match. Emily again made some good saves to keep another clean sheet and Georgia worked her socks off all over the court.

So the final table ended like this:

With a tie at the top of the table, Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club and Hull United played a 5 minute winner takes all game. Chances were few and far between as both teams looked to not give any easy goals away. A last gasp save from Emily took the game to penalties. The first 3 penalties were scored by both teams and then Emily made a fantastic save, leaving Freya to smash the winning penalty into the back of the net!

A huge thank you to all the parents and coaches who came and supported the players, with a special mention to the Clifton Green supporters – you were fantastic and we would love you back at any of our games! Well done to Coach Paul, with help from Mark, for leading the team.

So Bootham U10s move onto the next round at Northumbria University on the weekend of the 4 and 5th of June – more info as and when we get it.

Highlight of the day was the cheer when Clifton Green scored, even the referee celebrated! Goal of the day went to Irma for her stunning top corner strike and tackle of the day went to Maisie.

Player Of The Tournament For Bootham U10s was Imogen – you would never have known that she had only one previous game of futsal under her belt. She ran all day, scored a fantastic goal and kept smiling the whole time – pretty much a perfect performance! Well played Imogen!
