In the second tournament of the day, Bootham Futsal Club U14s took on two returning champions in Boro Rangers and Brayton Belles, with the final team Wigginton Grasshoppers making their futsal debut.

The results went as follows:

Game 1 – Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club U14s – 4 – Wigginton Grasshoppers U14s – 1

It couldn’t have been a better start with Heather scoring after only 90 seconds. Wigginton came roaring back and scored shortly afterwards. A smart save from Megan kept the scores level, but urged on by captain Katie H, and some great defending from Mila and Clare, Bootham retook the lead with a solo run and finish from Heather. An own goal and a fierce shot from Kate J saw Bootham run out comfortable winners.

Game 2 – Boro Rangers U14s – 0 – Brayton Belles U14s – 2

Game 3 – Wigginton Grasshoppers U14s – 2 – Brayton Belles U14s – 3

Game 4 – Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club U14s – 3 – Boro Rangers U14s – 0

In the second game of the day, Bootham made another fast start with Heather scoring inside 2 minutes. A much more controlled game, with Sophie T and Katie H controlling the middle of the court, saw Bootham cruising at times. Megan again made some good saves but a late goal from Heather and a superb strike from Kiera saw Bootham maintain their 100% record.

Game 5 – Wigginton Grasshoppers U14s – – Boro Rangers U14s – 2

Game 6 – Bootham Girls’ Futsal Club U14s – 2 – Brayton Belles U14s – 1

In a winner takes all final game Bootham faced off against previous winners Brayton Belles. Another early goal and her fifth of the day from Heather got Bootham up and running. Chances came and went for both teams, with Katie J, Sophie T and Kiera all going close. Brayton equalised late on and but for a fantastic save from Megan, and some superb last ditch tackling from the smallest player on the court Lexie, Brayton would have won.

The game moved into 5 minutes of extra time and a great goal from Sophie T gave Bootham the edge. In the final two minutes Brayton relentlastly launched the ball into the Bootham D, but again Megan in goal and Lexie, Clare, Mila and captain Katie H stood firm for Bootham to run out winners!

So the final table ended like this:

Special mentioned goes to Sophie W, who got injured in the second game and took the very brave decision to not play for the rest of the tournament, as she didn’t want to let her teammates down. This shows the team spirit and togetherness in this group of young ladies, and what a amazing gesture from Sophie.

So Bootham U14s join their U10s and move onto the next round at Northumbria University on the weekend of the 4 and 5th of June – more info as and when we get it.

Highlight of the day was the the fantastic support from all the parents! Goal of the day went to Katie J for her strike from a tight angle and tackle of the day went to Lexie.

Player Of The Tournament For Bootham U14s was The U14 Team – we sat down and tried to pick a player of the tournament and we kept changing our minds, Lexie’s tackles, Katie H’s captaincy, Heather’s goals, Sophie T possession – we could just keep going through the whole team. We realised it was a total team performance, not one player let the team down, they all performed to their maximum. Well done to the whole squad, you were simply brilliant against 3 very good teams!
