Me To You, But Not Back Again! – Bootham Futsal Club Week 12 – Season 2
We arrived at the sports hall on Sunday to find the lights were not working! It was pretty dark and not the best to play futsal in, oh well, these things are sent to try us!
After a fun warm up from Alan, we concentrated on some keep ball. The younger group were split into 4 teams and played across the width of the hall. They were asked to keep the ball off the opposition, with one rule – they were not allowed to pass the ball back to the player who had passed it to them. This makes the two players without the ball have to move. We then made the game directional but allowing the teams to score by stopping the ball with the sole of their foot on the end line. If the opposition kicked the ball out of the court, they had to run and touch the wall before coming back on court, allowing a huge overload for the team in possession. There was some great play from all involved in what is not an easy practise.
We finished with a game, but only allowing a one touch finish to score. By saying it has to be a one touch finish, means players have to support the player in possession!
This group of girls just keep getting better and better and we can’t wait for them to play some matches, they definitely look ready!

The older group started with some 2v1s over the whole court, with emphasis on keeping the ball safe and only passing when they absolutely had too.
They did they same keep ball session as the younger group but we worked much more with the players off the ball and how they could help the player in possession. This is hard work, you are constantly on the move, and never get a moment’s rest – very much replicating the game of futsal!
We finished with games in which the players could have as many touches as they wanted in their own half, but only 2 in the opposition’s and they had to finish with a one touch finish. Again, hard work, when a player made a fast break they needed support from at least one team-mate or they couldn’t score!
The older group are really starting to refine their understanding of the game of futsal, great to watch!
Player of the week for the First Hour was Katie H. She plays the game with such a huge smile on her face! We love the way she isn’t scared to tackle anyone, especially the coaches. One coach pointed out she naturally finds space on the court! Great start Katie, keep it up!
Player of the week for the Second Hour was Drew. She is one of our oldest members having been there since day one and what a change from that day. Drew is a seriously good player and we have high hopes for her. She has one of the hardest shots in the club also! Well done Drew!
We will be starting an advertising campaign for recruitment in the New Year. Places across the various age groups are now very limited, with the U16s completely full. Get in touch if you would like more information, and why not join one of the fastest growing girls only clubs in the area.
