York Girls’ Futsal Cup 2025 – What A Month!

The inaugural York Girls’ Futsal Cup concluded on Sunday, 9 February 2025, after four thrilling weeks of high-energy, fiercely competitive futsal. With over 100 girls participating—many experiencing the game for the first time—the tournament was a resounding success.
Teams from Bishopthorpe White Rose, York Railway Institute, Wigginton Grasshoppers, Elloughton Blackburn, Hull Eagles Futsal Club, and Strensall Tigers took part, showcasing incredible talent and passion. The event was a complete sell-out, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for girls’ futsal in the region.
The U10s kicked off the competition with an exciting start. Bootham Futsal Club stumbled in their opening game but showed incredible resilience, bouncing back to win the overall event in impressive fashion.

Meanwhile, the U12s were completely dominated by Wigginton Grasshoppers, who went undefeated throughout the tournament. Their scintillating futsal and commanding performances made them worthy champions.

The U14s provided one of the most thrilling competitions of the event. Matches went back and forth all day, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. In a closely contested final, Bootham Futsal Club emerged victorious, capping off an unforgettable tournament.

The U16s saw three evenly matched teams battle it out in an intense competition, with every game going down to the wire. In the end, it was Bootham Futsal Club who once again found a way to claim the trophy, securing another impressive victory.

Organiser and Bootham Futsal Club Chairman, Chris Collins, reflected on the tournament, saying: “Well, what a month this has been! It has been incredibly hard work but absolutely worth it—especially when you see all the videos and images of the players enjoying themselves. A huge thank you to all the parents, coaches, and clubs for bringing their daughters along to experience this wonderful game of futsal. A special shoutout to the Bootham Futsal Club helpers, whose dedication ensured the events ran smoothly. A very special mention to Walker Crips Financial Planning for sponsoring the event—we truly couldn’t do it without the support of companies like yours!”
He continued: “Futsal is one of the fastest-growing indoor sports in the world, and this event was designed to give girls the chance to try it in a safe and inclusive environment. We hope many of them enjoyed the game and will continue to play. As a club, we have been around for eight years and have a thriving membership—but we always welcome new players.’
Will we do it all again? Absolutely! We’ll see you all in January 2026 for the next edition!
